Any Circuit or District Overseers That Made An Impression On You?

i used to enjoy do paul illingsworth's talks.

he thought he was a greek scholar.. anyone that you liked (or didn't)?.

Hey Minimus,

Yeah, I knew Illingworth quite well. And I thought he was cool. One of the few DOs who had cool interests that included liking to ski, scuba dive, etc and he gave great talks. You got the impression that he thought he was THE MAN, but he didn't take himself too seriously. I wouldn't be surprised if he posted here in the future.

R.L. Jones: The coolest CO I ever knew. Armani suits, stacy adams shoes, cool wife. Knew about the politics behind the publishing corporation.

Jack Moore: Old school white brother with a grandfather's care and touch. Enjoyed him. Passed away in the early 1990s.

R.E. Smith: Many felt he was an ass-hole, but I thought he was funny as hell. A living breathing cartoon character. Who doesn't remember some of his catch phrases, "Girdle down sisters, you look like you have two piggys in a blanket," "Let's clean these heathens up with P & G soap," "These sisters have these rips and splits up their skirts from can to can't," "What's with all the colors in your hair, some of you looked like you walked past an exploding paint factory." I could go on and on............

Charles Jackson: Great speaker. In hindsight, he was a little too emotional at times (for instance he broke down and cried several times during some of his closing prayers at District Conventions), but he seemed to mean well.

Antrim Smith: There are two words that come to mind for this ass-hole - POND SCUM. Took delight in lording it over the flock. Would pride himself on his ability to remove whole bodies of elders at a time. Would pridefully relate stories such as when he once asked a pioneer what kind of music he listened to, and when the pioneer went to do a call, he went under the car seat and opened up his CD case and found he had records by Prince and various hip hop artists. He relieved the pioneer of his duties (both pioneer and MS) because of that and the pioneer felt into a deep depression. Antrim told him it was because he grieved Jah's spirit by listening to debased music. If there ever was a fiery hell, this ass-hole would be the first to burn.

when will the wts admit that this arrangement is a bust - financially, emotionally, aesthetically.

mts was something that started in 1987 for those who wanted to pursue other avenues of services without having to go through bethel service.

it originally was intended to be an abbreviated gilead course with brothers receiving assignments to go into the circuit work, missionary service, special pioneer work or to serve where the need was greater (which oftentimes translated to the boonies or starkly rural areas).

BETHELITES - Whatever Became of?

i often times wonder what happened to certain bethelites that i ran around with during my 1990s tenure there.

while there are still a few left there, the greater majority of them aren't there for various reasons (marriage, disillusionment, left the borg, etc).

a couple of cats i wonder about - there was one brother who i believe was from kansas, who got his fingers cut off in a printing press.

HAHAHA.......yeah I remember Gil Nazaroff. He was a prick, although he treated me OK. Anybody remember any press guys like Frank Butcher, Rashaun Rofick, Mata Carlos Valentino, Keith Davis, Jesse Santana, etc?

This is a dead-on observation as I know many in the US and Canada who have gone apostate............

When will the WTS admit that this arrangement is a bust - financially, emotionally, aesthetically. MTS was something that started in 1987 for those who wanted to pursue other avenues of services without having to go through bethel service. It originally was intended to be an abbreviated gilead course with brothers receiving assignments to go into the circuit work, missionary service, special pioneer work or to serve where the need was greater (which oftentimes translated to the boonies or starkly rural areas).

The greater majority of brothers who were given assignments would then have meltdowns because they were often sent into assignments that in no way was in line with their skill-set, background, locale they were raised in, etc. There were even some who were sent to **gasp** Bethel, where they could see the action up close, only to be later disillusioned and go back home. The majority of assignments brothers now receive from MTS? Being sent back to their local congregations like fish thrown back in the water. So for two months, brothers get gilead-style training only to be sent back home in hopes of serving in their home congos. WHAT A WASTE!!

It's even more of a waste when most, if not all these bros have foregone college in hopes of receiving this perceived theocratic higher education only to find that it doesn't carry any value and that you'll be sent back to your originally congo anyway..........

I often times wonder what happened to certain bethelites that I ran around with during my 1990s tenure there. While there are still a few left there, the greater majority of them aren't there for various reasons (marriage, disillusionment, left the borg, etc).

A couple of cats I wonder about - there was one brother who I believe was from Kansas, who got his fingers cut off in a printing press. Of course, they let him stay for a hot minute, before shipping him out. I think his name was Josh, but I can't remember his last name. Nice brother, affable guy. There was another brother whose name escapes me at the moment, who was an artist prodigy. He had real talent in that area and could have been a successful commercial/graphic artist in the real world, but they stuck him in the cleaning department until he just got discouraged and left after so long.........

Any other bethelites whom you wonder whatever became of them?

i was watching this documentary on the various galaxies and it stated that the universe is still expanding, planets are being created as we speak.

it also detailed some of the planets within our solar system and some beyond it and speculated how some were favorable for habitation and that some show evidence of having a water supply.

what do you believe about the universe?

What do you believe about the universe? Obviously, it has been here for billions or trillions of years. Are there life on other planets? What is creating/expanding galaxies now? Is it an intelligent life force? Thoughts?

i've always had a problem with the hebrew scriptures and the way god was portrayed.

it's like talkin' about 2 different gods.

on one hand you've got a petty, murderous, jealous, insecure sounding god (hebrew) and on the other you've got someone who is supposed to be the epitome of love.
